Believe it or not, I'm a LEFT-HANDER, and this was done ENTIRELY in photoshop CS3 with my RIGHT-HAND :D

For 1pen's "Project Diability" challenge [link]
.... A few hours worth on work. My original concept and character.

........................
I know, i can't really believe it either, a few years back i could barely hold an pen properly with my right. But i think my right hand has become stronger from carry heavy things, gripping my SLR cam frequently, and using the mouse often. :)

Don't get me wrong, this challenge was quite tough, my right-hand still has no power to press harder, and i kept having to go over the lines a few more times, i couldn't cotrol my line work well, and had to use the eraser often (and that wasn't any easier)... cleaning up the line work was a pain in the ass, as well as the shading... I used my usual working style to make this piece.

Now i have a cramp in my entire right hand and forearm, and my left hand and shoulder from the strain caused the temptation to let it take over. LOL~

But on the whole, it's a seriously liberating experience. With my right, i was forced to go back to my roots in anime/manga art. But because my the lack of control, i ended up creating interesting random lines and forms that make the piece look more sketchy . As the piece took shape, i got more bold in experimenting with a few things i had in mind. Also, i've always love the sketchy look, and doing this piece made me miss the old look i used to do --> [link] I've been trying to widen my skills by making my art less and less anime-looking and with "cleaner" lines and all.

This final image is a hell lot girlier that i'm used to doing, hahah. But i think that image works well in this new style my right hand has developed for me :D Plus igave me some things to take note of and think about...

I think that while some people may end up handicap, it's not totally impossible to still do some of things you used to do well before the handicap. Some handicaps might even be better because they may think they are not good, so they try harder and learn how they can improve and work around thier disabilities :)

Though it's sad not every case is as such, perhaps other doors will be open to them in other areas, where they can get just as much enjoyment in doing art, or whatever...

Holy c...p for real? I was trying over the weekend to use my left hand only( I'm right handed, totally.) ...so difficult,so frustating... but I guess if you have tons of patient beautiful thing like this is the result..

hah, yeah... i can't say that i'm a patient person :P i just got inspired along the way, so i got caught up in doing the image.... but it was quite slow going... since it was hard to draw a long (controlled) line, i had to zoom in to draw shorter lines, which were easier to manage... the same goes for the brush work with short quick strokes... :)

My gosh, your non dominant hand? It's really good!
I find it hard enough trying to write legibly with my non dominant :(
It's an interesting challenge tho, I may take it up, privately, just for fun.

yah... thank you :) i don think i can write proper words with my right yet though, it has to be really BIG, like a kid's :D
yup yup  I'll probably continue trying in my spare time during classes or sth... Quite fun...
